Orthodontic treatment offered in London, Ontario
Early intervention
Dr Tetelbaum supports the preventative / early interventional orthodontics. It represents treatment done at a developmental stage in our life when we encourage and guide the bone development so that the full complement of teeth is accommodated in the arch and proper jaw relationship is achieved for an optimal aesthetic and functional result. In most of the cases it eliminates or reduces the need for braces in the teenage age.
- crowding of adult teeth
- excessive overbite - protruding teeth
- crossbite, underbite or open bite
- abnormal facial development, lower jaw back positioned or insufficient upper jaw growth
- persistent bad oral habits - thumb sucking
Removable orthodontic appliances (retainers) are used usually in mixed dentition, the growing phase of a child and commonly referred as Phase I orthodontic treatment. Appliances are fabricated of an acrylic part and metal wire that will either apply force on the teeth or secure the appliance in the mouth. They have to be worn at least 18 hours per day so compliance is crucial. Some patients will require a short term braces to correct some rotations and tooth angulation when adult teeth are fully erupted.
Arch expander
Whenever the dental arches are under-developed, Dr Tetelbaum will recommend using a fixed expander. It is very different than the old one that had a screw in the middle that needed to be turned with a special key every day. This one is extremely slick and it has a Titanium spring inside of a thin telescopic tube. It is way smaller and doesn’t need to be activated. It will gently apply continuous pressure encouraging the bone to develop.
Adult orthodontics
Who said that orthodontics is just for children? You can achieve the smile of your dream at any age. It has been proven that having properly positioned teeth will improve not only your smile but also your overall health and personal and professional relationships. Having straight teeth will assist you and maintaining an optimum oral health reducing the risk for tooth decay, gum disease, bone loss or pain in your jaws.
Having extensive training in aesthetics and restorative dentistry, Dr Tetelbaum is able to offer his London patients the best treatment options that most of the time will combine a variety of orthodontics techniques with other aesthetic dental procedures like bonding veneers, ceramic restorations and implants. This way you will not be restricted only to what adult orthodontics can offer you. It is your time to achieve the smile of your dreams!
Most of our adult patients will opt for Invisalign as a treatment option for adult orthodontics. Sometimes, for an enhanced result Dr Tetelbaum will recommend to his London patients to have a preparatory stage like an expander or distalizer before the actual Invisalign treatment. And if braces will yield a better result he will explain that to you and offer you to have aesthetic braces like ceramic braces or metal braces.
If you are interested to see what modern orthodontics techniques can offer you, please schedule an appointment with our knowledgable staff. Dr Tetelbaum will be happy to discuss your individual needs and will develop a unique treatment plan. We provide exceptional quality orthodontic, aesthetic and functional treatment for adults in London and surrounding areas.
Dental Braces
Band and brackets (dental braces) is the traditional orthodontic treatment but there is nothing “traditional” in the dental braces that Dr Tetelbaum offers his patients. He uses a modern bracket system that has a minuscule sliding door to connect to the orthodontic wire. It is smaller and smoother than old brackets. The wires that we use are fabricated of a special material that is extremely flexible and is active when exposed to the mouth temperature. If you need a short break from the orthodontic pressure just drink some cold water. It will cool off the wire and for a certain amount of time it will be passive. Because the wires are so flexible and they can slide freely in the brackets, the overall treatment length is reduced, there is less discomfort and less adjustments visits. You can now take extended vacation and be confident that the appliance is still active.
Dental braces treatment in London Ontario
It all starts with a comprehensive orthodontic assessment. A precise 3D iTero scan or silicone impressions will be taken, along with specialized radiographs and picture of your smile and posture. Dr Tetelbaum will analyze all the data gathered and propose a specific treatment plan to respond to the patient’s specific needs.
Once dental braces have been identified as the treatment of choice we will schedule a longer appointment to have the braces placed in strategic places on individual teeth. The most flexible wire is fitted in place and the treatment starts. You will be given instructions on how to care for your appliance.
We will see you at specific intervals ranging from 4-6 weeks to ensure proper development of the arches and straightening of the teeth. These appointments are usually 30 min or less. It is normal that you feel pressure on your teeth during orthodontic treatment. Although the brackets are now extremely comfortable there might instances were the cheeks rub against the appliance. Just apply a layer of wax that we provide you with and the irritation will disappear. As the teeth get straighter the wires gets “longer”. We will trim that for you at your visits.
Several wires in progressive strengths will be used during the length of the treatment. Sometimes Dr Tetelbaum will use accessory appliances like, elastic chains, titanium springs or inter-arch elastics. Dental emergencies during the braces treatment are rare and Dr Tetelbaum takes good care that these are very few in number but if anything happens please check our page on how to take care of your braces.
When the treatment is concluded we will take new records and we will present you with a few retention options. Retention is a very important phase in orthodontic treatment when we stabilize the result and maintain it.

Invisalign and Invisalign Teen
Invisalign is the newest and the fastest growing method to straighten teeth. It consists of a series of clear aligners that gradually push the teeth into the proper position. The advantage of this technique is that it is a custom made appliance that use gentle but efficient force to move the teeth.
Dr Tetelbaum uses an advanced 3D iTero scanner to get a virtual representation of your teeth. He can then show you instantly what Invisalign might be able to do for you and this is done at the first complimentary consult.
Following the submission of proper instructions to Align Technologies, a technician produces a 3D computer simulation of the treatment plan customized by Dr Tetelbaum. Once the treatment is accepted, the fabrication process starts. All in all it can take as little as 2-3 weeks from the initial consult to the first delivery of the aligners. The average treatment time for Invisalign treatment is 9 months. In rare cases a refinement is necessary at the end of the treatment to correct any lazy teeth.
How do I know if I am a candidate for Invisalign?
Invisalign is an amazing orthodontic tool and and the right hand can yield awesome results in a variety of dental issues like:
- spacing or gaps in between teeth
- crowded teeth
- misaligned teeth
- deep bite
- open bite
- overbite or underbite
- crossbite
What to expect during the Invisalign treatment?
One of the advantages of Invisalign is the comfort and aesthetics provided by the clear aligners. We recommend that the patient wears the aligners for 22 hours a day. Some pressure is normal but patients that had both braces and Invisalign report less pressure with Invisalign treatment.
There will be changes in the way you bite so chewing ability might be affected. You will feel a bit more pressure on your front teeth due to slight ingression on back molar. Otherwise eating and oral hygiene during Invisalign treatment is almost unhindered by the orthodontic treatment.
How much does Invisalign costs?
The cost of Invisalign is not much different than regular braces and it varies depending of the complexity and the duration of the treatment. There are also several payment options some are in office, no interest financing or 3rd party financing. With monthly payments starting as low as $75 a month makes Invisalign quite affordable. There are also several saving opportunities. Keep in mind though that you are not buying a piece of plastic, what you are getting is the dentist’s art, knowledge and ability to unravel the beautiful smile that you deserve.
Are braces better than Invisalign?
This is a common question that comes quite often in discussion. Invisalign, just like braces, is a tool that the orthodontist uses to straighten the teeth. How is that tool used will ultimately determine the success of the treatment. There areas where braces fare better like extrusion movements and compliance is not an issue, most of the time. Invisalign though is a customized type of treatment and uses gentle, more comfortable forces. Dr Tetelbaum utilizes both techniques and will advise you on all the possibilities. That way you will never have a cookie cutter solution with a standardized treatment but rather you will have access to a full arsenal of dental procedures.
